ECS First Grade Class
Mathematics
Subjects
The class will learn to analyze, problem solve, and show expression in this particular subject. Students will walk away with the ability to read and create graphs, add and subtract whole numbers, and effectively use a number line. They will deal with word problems that provoke thought and allow creativity in a mathematical space.
Reading Comprehension
The class will learn to take turns in a reading rotation with assistance from the teacher to strengthen their reading skills. They will read stories about animals, friendship, kindness, and important morals. They also learn how to answers questions about the text with their own original ideas. This class will increase creativity and the ability to dive into a story.
Language Arts
The class will learn spelling, parts of speech, vowels, and other important grammatical concepts. They are tested weekly on spelling and parts of speech. Students practice writing on their own, improving handwriting and understanding of sentence structure. Their knowledge of grammar will improve throughout the year in this class.
Science
This class will help students explore the natural world through projects with light, cause and effect, function and structure, and other scientific components. Students will take home projects to do with family members and bring them back to the classroom for further discussion. Students will get to dive into God's creation and the world He has given us through this class.
Social Studies
The class will learn about the planet Earth, cardinal directions, holidays and festivals, other cultures, and important historical figures. Students will get an overview of the freedoms we have today and how we got here. We engage in quiz games to help students expand their knowledge of the subject in a fun way.
